Encountering Innovation

Encountering Innovation is back for a second year.

This fall we will host Kansas SBDC’s Encountering Innovation 2 from October 8 -12, 2018 in Overland Park, Kansas. This is our second event that brings together Department of Defense Tech Scouts to listen to innovator pitches, examine poster board displays, discuss government needs, and chat with innovators. You can find out more about our event, and our program, by visiting the Encountering Innovation website or by calling the Kansas SBDC Technology Commercialization Director, Alan Badgley, at (316) 978-6624.

Success at Encountering Innovation 1

At our 2017 event, the businesses that attended had great success. They worked with our team to learn how to pitch their ideas prior to the event. We then connected them with people willing to listen to their ideas and give them a chance – something we know that is a challenge for innovators.

At our 2017 event, Tech Scouts expressed interest in the technology they saw during the week:

  • 27 of 57 innovators connected with a DoD contact
  • 17 of 57 innovators were referred to another agency
  • 5 had some type of referral or recommendation that could help move their product forward

We believe these are great results. Because of this, the doors are open to more innovators doing valuable work creating world-changing innovation – innovators like you.

Curious about what’s on the current radar of the Department of Defense?

Here’s the Combatant Command Common Capability Needs (as of 21May2018). Take a look to find out if your innovation might be a good fit. Then contact our team. We’ll talk you through it.
