Klein Recognized as 2018 SBDC State Star
Karl Klein will be recognized at America’s SBDC Awards Ceremony September 4, 2018 in Washington, DC
TOPEKA, Kansas — The Kansas Small Business Development Center’s (Kansas SBDC) has announced Karl Klein as the Kansas SBDC State Star for 2018.
This award recognizes business advisors and staff in the SBDC Program who have demonstrated exemplary work performance, significant contribution to the organization’s economic development efforts, and a strong commitment to small businesses.
Klein serves as the Regional Director of the Kansas SBDC at Washburn University. He began his Washburn career in 2009 advising out of the Outreach Center in Manhattan, Kansas, covering Geary, Riley, Pottawatomie and Marshall Counties. Before arriving at Washburn, he owned and operated hardline retail stores selling and servicing a wide variety of products in western Kansas. During his twenty years of small business ownership, Karl served two terms (six years) as a representative on a National Owner’s Council representing his five state region and their business. Both stores successfully transitioned in 2007 and 2008.
After the transition, he oversaw operations as a District Sales Manager for independently operated Hometown Dealer Stores in Kansas, and Colorado. Karl received his MLS in Organizational Leadership from Fort Hays State University, and his B.B.A. in Marketing from Stephen F. Austin State University. Karl is a Certified Exit Planning Advisor, credentialed by the Exit Planning Institute. In his current role he overseas operations of a twelve county region, with two outreach centers serving Kansas entrepreneurs with advising and training to help start and grow their business.
“Karl has been a valuable part of our advising team since 2009,” said Greg Panichello, Kansas SBDC state director. “He has great rapport with business owners he works with and understands what it takes to successfully own and operate a business in Kansas.”
Klein will receive this recognition, along with 61 other State Stars for his work, at America’s SBDC conference in Washington, DC, this September.
